Words matter. Find the right ones.

Language is a crucial tool for inclusion. Language and imagery can represent diversity fairly, appropriately, and precisely; they can be authentic, respectful, and sensitive to discrimination. I support you in achieving this goal through sensitivity readings.

WHAT IS A SENSITIVITY READING?

A sensitivity reading is a careful, discrimination-critical review of textual and visual material that helps ensure inclusive content delivery, avoids stereotypes, effectively reaches a diverse audience, and enhances brand engagement

Sensitivity readings are a crucial component in responsibly crafting communication materials. They ensure that diverse experiences and identities are respectfully represented and that target audiences are inclusively addressed.

How do I calculate the hours required?
The number of required work hours varies depending on the complexity of the submitted material. Image-heavy materials, for example, typically require fewer work hours compared to academic texts. As a general guideline, you can estimate approximately one work hour per 10 pages. This applies to both the standard and pro rates (see pricing overview).

What do clients say?

”Swana Schuchmann’s sensitivity reading of our Healing Classrooms handbook gave us the opportunity to further develop our work and our existing approaches. Her excellent report, that was very detailed and comprehensive, provided us with many helpful suggestions to eliminate stereotypes, bias and potentially harmful illustrations and descriptions. The communication has always been appreciative and we are grateful for the cooperation that has encouraged us to continue to critically review our materials. We would always work with Swana again!”
